US-30 Lava Bridge – Idaho Transportation Department

Dioptra provided HDS scanning of the newly constructed bridge over the Portnuef River on US-30 near Lava Hot Springs. By use of the scan data, ITD engineers were able to determine the exact deck thickness at key locations on the bridge structure. Additionally, Dioptra provided scan data and analysis of girder camber to determine if the deck thickness was causing any unsuitable beam deflection. The scan produced a point cloud with over 12 million data points with a positional accuracy of less than 0.05’. This scan covered the entire bridge structure and surrounding area, but also provided data that allowed specific cross sections to be analyzed.
